Though we were so very hopeful that things would look differently by now, it has become clear that in order to keep our ride family safe and abide by Maine’s re-opening plan, changes must be made to the way we ride this year. Unfortunately the New England Parkinson’s Ride will not take place in Old Orchard Beach this year…but ride we will!
Rather than hosting our traditional ride, we are asking that members of our Ride Family join us across the country in a Synchronized Ride.
On Saturday, September 12th*, at a time to be announced, members old and new of the The New England Parkinson’s Ride Family will join us on their own streets, parks, and bike trails all across the country CYCLING IN SYNC toward a world without PD!
Shortly before Ride Day we will mail out an official 2020 T-shirt and our awesome NEPR buff, to all registered cyclists so wherever you are riding, whether solo or in small groups (as allowed by local mandates) everyone can ride proudly in solidarity for the cause!
On Ride Day, our plan is to have a Facebook Watch Party (or another form of technology) as we do a LIVE START with Team Woods and many of the original riders from our very first Ride in 2008!
Once our founder, Edna, starts the Ride, the rest of our cyclists will take off on routes they have chosen! This year it is truly not about the distance, it’s about creating a fun ride for you and your loved ones and sharing the highlights along the way!
*If you can’t ride on September 12th, the LIVE START will be recorded so that you can join in on a day and time of your choosing. Just be sure to send in your pictures and video!
We know this is not the news you wanted to hear and after 13 years of hard work, it is not the message we wanted to deliver, but we are a family and family doesn’t quit when times get tough!
AND…NO ONE SAYS NO TO EDNA!
